More about Poros

The town of Poros is very charming with the houses climbing up the hill. White and brown houses with wooden shutter doors on the balconies and red tiled roofs.
The alleys are narrow and winding, up and down stairs with small cozy squares. The town of Poros is incredibly beautiful and peaceful.
From the town of Poros, which is its own island, a bridge crosses over to the main island. If you turn left after the bridge, you will come to Neorion where there are several nice swimming beaches.
Directly to the right after the bridge is Kanali beach. If you choose the road straight ahead after the bridge and keep to the right, you will reach Askeli, where there is a long sandy beach.
Further past Askeli, the road leads to Monestery Beach. Above the beach is Zoodhohos Monastery.

Poros-129

The town of Poros corresponds to most of what people imagine a Greek island town to look like. Closely built small houses climbing up the hill and separated by narrow lanes.
After the dock, there are activities all day. Small boats with curious visitors on excursions and permanent residents going to and from work on the mainland. Ferries come and go from morning to night. There are many cafes, bars and restaurants in the small town.
After the quay, luxury yachts and sailboats are moored.

Poros has about 4,000 inhabitants. The main industry is tourism. The island is only about 31 km², so it's easy to make yourself at home. Along its coast there are many fine beaches. Poros forms the Saronic archipelago together with Aegina, Hydra and Spetses.

Poros means strait or water passage in Greek and the name comes from the narrow strait that separates Poros from the Peloponnese.
